There are times when you can clearly define a home its distinct style and what makes it so special. Then there are occasions when you feel that a house just has the ‘it’ factor that simply ropes you in. The fabulous in is one such mesmerizing home designed by Lera Katasonova that captivates you with its relaxing lustrous charm and a soft subtle feminine vibe.
The street façade of an urban residence is generally what sets it apart from its neighbors in the most obvious fashion. Sure the interior and the backyard matter a whole lot as well but it is the front elevation of the building that gives it a distinct identity in a setting where space is precious and one home seems to start where the previous one ends!
Designed by Turnbull Griffin Haesloop Architects and located in Sonoma County the luxurious residence is nestled on a lot that overlooks magnificent oaks and green meadows. It also holds a natural spring that flows into a beautiful pond. This is paradise wine country-style!
The orientation of the house brings in plenty of natural light even while keeping it cool during the hot summer months while the al fresco dining and poolside hangout extend the living area outdoors with ease. It is the lower level of the house that holds the living area kitchen dining space gallery-style entry and a rejuvenating sauna with the top level housing the bedroom and other private spaces.
Glass walls coupled with wooden slats bring with them a sense of privacy without hindering the flow of light while the existing upgraded Victorian house at the front is given a smart facelift. Three bedrooms along with a bathroom are nestled in this part of the house even as the top level holds the master bedroom terrace and a spacious library.
On the inside the old floor plan was junked in favor of a new more open interior where each room flows into the next while making the most of the view on offer. Space is maximized cleverly with additions such as the home office in the hallway and ingenious kitchens shelves that offer multiple storage options. Breezy beautiful and practical this is a transformation that seems to epitomize Brazil’s love for the outdoors!
Inspired by the traditional earthen houses in the region the structure of the house is deceptively simple and traditional yet it offers all the modern comforts one could wish for. A marriage between contrasting styles and architectural principles life here is all about being close to nature.
