Much of the original home was poorly lit and filled with awkward spaces and unnecessary internal partitions that blocked any flow of natural light. One of the first things that the architects did was to completely re-imagine the interiors and create a new floor plan where the old living room and entrance were transformed into the main bedroom and the chamfered corners were utilized to the hilt. The new living space and entrance are connected with the re-envisioned bedroom using a painted sliding door that blends into the walls that surround it!
The private top floor holds two bedrooms and bathrooms that provide spectacular views of the Pyrenees and the countryside. An unassuming wooden staircase with glass railing divides the home into two identical halves and ushers in a sense of symmetry and curated elegance.
The Cor-ten steel pergola structure that sits just outside the living room also shapes the balcony for the top floor while the revamped swimming pool and large deck provide ample space to rest and rejuvenate on those lazy summer evenings.
The open atrium on the lower level welcomes you with a breath of fresh air and plenty of natural light that enlivens the dining area small living space and kitchen next to it. With the public spaces being placed on the lower level it is a large bedroom and a multi-purpose room (serving as a home office study and relaxation space) that make up the second level. A small bridge connects the bedroom with the multi-purpose room even as a rustic color scheme and diverse finishes in brick and wood shape a welcoming and unique house.
Designed by PLAN & HUMAN PLAN Architects office the contemporary home is spread across three different levels with the lowest floor housing the entrance a spacious hall and a home office along with a large parking space. The second is in line with the large garden and spa outside and seems to interact with the outdoors in a seamless fashion while it holds a family room playroom and additional bedrooms on the inside.
